Online Lectures Go On / Online Dersler Devam Ediyor

 

I continued online classes at MEF University in Fall 2020. This method, which I experienced for the first time, was not so difficult, as I taught a project management course to a small MBA class last spring. During this semester, I gave project management and information systems management courses to two different classes, one of 20 and the other of 30 students.

According to my experience, doing online lessons in small classes is more intimate and efficient. Everyone opens their cameras, you can speak more easily, you can get more reaction. In large online classes, on the other hand, not everyone turns on their cameras, someone enters, someone leaves the session, it is difficult to follow the class and interaction is more limited.

I think giving extra points to classroom participation and home studies are good ways to increase engagement. In this way, you encourage the students in the classroom to contribute to more lessons. Of course, hard-working students make themselves noticed in every environment. They talk more in class, do their homework more carefully, and get higher marks in exams.

In summary, it doesn't matter for good students online or in class, even if it's a different experience.

NOTE: Today, I learned that an architect student of my project management course in Fall 2019 passed the PMP exam. I am proud and happy.

2020 Güz Döneminde MEF Üniversitesi'nde Online derslere devam ettim. Geçtiğimiz bahar döneminde küçük bir MBA sınıfına proje yönetimi dersi verdiğim için ilk defa deneyimlediğim bu yöntem beni çok zorlamamıştı. Bu dönem ise biri 20 küsür, diğeri 30 küsür iki ayrı sınıfa proje yönetimi ve bilgi sistemleri yönetimi derstleri verdim. 

Deneyimlerime göre küçük sınıflarda online ders yapmak daha samimi ve performanslı oluyor. Herkes kameralarını açıyor, daha rahat söz alıyor, daha çok tepki alabiliyorsunuz. Büyük sınıflarda ise herkes kamerasını açmıyor, biri giriyor biri çıkıyor, sınıfı takip zor oluyor  ve etkileşim daha sınırlı oluyor. 

Bence, etkileşimi arttırmak için sınıf içi katılımlara ve ev çalışmalarına ekstra puan vermek iyi bir yöntem. Bu sayede sınıftakilerin daha çok derse katkılarını teşfik etmiş oluyorsunuz. Tabii çalışkan öğrenciler her ortamda kendini fark ettiriyor. Derste daha çok söz alıyor, ödevlerini daha itinalı yapıyor ve sınavlarda daha yüksek not alıyorlar.

Özetle, daha farklı bir deneyim olsa da online ya da sınıf içi iyi öğrenciler için fark etmiyor.
